Morocco’s National Office for Electricity & Drinking Water (ONEE) has joined the Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership (GSEP), a CEO-led international organization composed of the world’s leading electricity companies promoting sustainable electrification worldwide.

The membership of ONEE to the global organization of electricity companies was announced lately at GSEP Summit 2019 held in Osaka, Japan.

ONEE Director General Abderrahim El Hafidi took part in the GSEP meeting and seized this opportunity to showcase the progress made by Morocco in the sector of energy and explore the possibility of sealing partnerships with international electricity companies.

He also said that the Kingdom is willing to share its experience, particularly in the African continent, faced with huge electrification challenges.

The Osaka summit brought together CEOs and senior executives of some of the world’s largest electricity companies. These leaders agreed that progress in achieving climate and sustainable development goals can only be made if all energy providers, policymakers, customers, technology providers and other actors collaborate to strongly accelerate efficient electrification of our societies.

Discussions at the Summit focused on decarbonization, decentralization, digitalization, and deregulation and changing market design (including investment and financing). These megatrends are structurally transforming the electricity sector.

Participants in the Osaka Summit issued a statement, outlining GSEP members’ commitment to accelerate efficient electrification and innovation along the full electricity value chain, which will deliver both economic and social benefits.
